What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is the prescribed, structured use of music by a music therapist to help people maintain or improve life skills in the following areas: communication, academic performance, gross and fine motor development, social skills, and emotional development. In addition, music has the added benefit of the ability to help motivate in the completion of tasks and to increase attention and behavior responses.
When: Tuesday, June 17- Tuesday, August 5
Cost: $180 per semester (8 weekly sessions, 45-minutes in length)

Class Descriptions:
Music Makers (ages 5-12)
The focus of this group is making music with friends. Fun and exciting songs will be used to capture children’s attention, while also promoting socialization, self-expression, communication, and motor development. Tasks such as instrument play, singing, movement to music, and finger-plays can be used to help address areas of need such as: making eye contact, increasing spontaneous and cued speech, improving speech intelligibility, taking turns, and developing appropriate social reactions.
Tuesday, 5:00-5:45 p.m.
In Harmony (ages 13-18)
Catering to teenagers’ individual talents and abilities, this group will introduce team building concepts as well as explore self-expression through therapeutic approaches. This group will experience drumming, singing, movement to music, improvisational songwriting, and other projects based on the needs and interests of this group.
Tuesday, 6:00-6:45 p.m.
